Focused on developing mid to large scale paintings, Raissa Bailey maintains an active studio practice in Evanston, IL.  Her work explores femininity and spirituality and while historically her style was more representational or surrealist, her recent work evolved into suggestive form through abstraction.  Raissa is influenced by her travels around the world and her own diverse background. In recent years her process of creation has gained importance as a spiritual practice of reflection and connection.  Sources such as the I Ching and shamanic studies influence the work by encouraging a simplification of the form allowing the layered and textural applications of paint to express a visual and conceptual depth.  Her artistic influences include prehistoric art, Jackson Pollock, Frida Kahlo and Dana Schutz. Raissa graduated from DePaul University with a BA and is currently continuing her education at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
